Sharing space: “Strange Statements”

galerijos_erdves2.jpg

It seems that the time has already come for the division of gallery space. I upload the gallery plan with the marked space that I would need. Gintaras, tell me if we will be able to share the same wall. I guess your photographs should not conflict with my texts. The projection might take up about 2,5×2 meters. If this location proves to be inadequate - i.e. if the projection will be hard to see in the usual lightning of the gallery – then it will have to be placed in the darkest corner (I have marked it in the plan as well).

Myth deconstruction

6h_4_11_sumazintas.jpgIn the context of postphotography, I am mostly interested in the idea and practice of myth deconstruction. In this case, I choose the most popular and unquestionable myth that “photography is the art of the instant”. Video means are usually employed for “violating” the duration, while I offer to fake the photograph itself. The same frame is shot [24 photographs of the same place are taken over the course of 6 hours], then they are merged into one image, thus 6 hours are condensed into one instant in the resulting photograph.

the 3xposition weblog is starting up

Everybody is welcome to register (entering their nickname, name and surname, and e-mail – the latter will not be publicly available) and participate in creating the community. This community will carry out the curation of the exhibition scheduled for October, and will create the context for it. The curation of the exhibition is a public process that every member of the community can contribute to by writing messages, sharing experience, offering themes fitting the exhibition’s conception, as well as commenting on and criticising the already submitted material. If you have any questions, write an e-mail to vytautas(at)3xpozicija.lt

exhibition “Photography after photography”

The exhibition exploring states of photography took place in 1994-1997 and traveled through several famous museums around the world. The review of the exhibition and its catalogue can be found here. The article titled “Photography after photography: terror of the body in the digital space” by one of the exhibition’s curators Hubertus v. Amelunxen can be found here. This exhibition attempted to get a view of photography in the beginning of the digital technology intervention era, thus many of its insights appear self-evident now.
